Dan Doyle has given must of his adult life to the sport of Disc Golf. He has great credibility throughout the disc golf family, and a growing presence within the Parks and Rec community, as he helps the sport flourish. Dan's Biography
Dan Doyle has been involved with Disc Sports as a competitor, promoter, administrator, tournament organizer, and Disc Golf Course designer since 1974.
He first played Disc Golf in 1974 on the Rutgers College campus on an "object course", prior to the invention of disc-catching baskets.
He has designed or co-designed 9 18-hole courses, including the course at Douglass College in New Brunswick, NJ that hosted the 1982 World Disc Championships sponsored by Mazda. Dan is an original member of the Disc Golf Course Designers Group and is involved with helping to shape the future of the sport.
Over the past 30 years he has organized or participated in hundreds of Disc Golf tournaments, clinics, classes, demonstrations, and exhibitions. He has participated in exhibitions for the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC and at Yankee, Shea, and Giants Stadiums.
He was the main designer of the Brakewell Steel / Town of Warwick Disc Golf Course (NY) that is widely acclaimed as being one of the finest courses in North America. Dan was the Tournament Director for the Skylands Classic at Warwick National Tour event in 2005 and in 2006, and received the 2005 PDGA Tournament Director of the Year award. Dan was the Mid-Atlantic Disc Club's Promotor of the Year for 2005.
He recently completed the design of 2 Disc Golf courses for the Sugarbush Resort in Warren, VT and was the Tournament Director for the 2007 Sugarbush Open National Tour event. Dan played competitive Ultimate Frisbee on various college and club teams from 1974 through 2001, having been an integral part of 4 world champion teams in 1975, 1976, 1991, and 1995. In 1985 Dan won the Discathon event at the U.S. Disc Championships.
He is the owner of Brakewell Steel Fabricators in Chester, NY. Besides Disc Sports, Dan is also an avid downhill skier, "ball golfer", and has completed 17 marathons. He resides in Warwick, NY with his wife Michelle and his 5-year-old son Zackary, whose favorite activity just happens to be throwing flying discs and offering Disc Golf lessons to other 5-year-olds.
